A high Speaking band is not a performance of impressive vocabulary. It is the result of answering the question fully, developing ideas naturally, and staying clear when the topic or follow-up is unfamiliar.
Develop the idea before decorating the language
A concise answer can be accurate, but it does not show enough range if every response stops after one sentence. Add a reason, consequence, comparison, or example before you reach for a more advanced word.
- Answer the question directly.
- Explain the reason or effect.
- Add one specific example.
- Stop when the idea is complete.
Make fluency flexible rather than fast
Speaking quickly can hide weak organisation and make pronunciation harder to follow. Practise keeping meaning moving with natural pauses, simple signposting, and a structure you can adapt.
Review one criterion at a time
Record the same answer twice. On the first review, notice development and coherence. On the second, listen for pronunciation or grammar patterns. A narrow review produces a clearer next attempt.
